COMICS!

Darrell Sucks At Comics - Comic

July 2014 to Present | Personal Work

Darrell Sucks At Comics is an occasionally-posted journal-style comic that I do whenever I have a little free time. It's about how terrible at consistently drawing comics I am. Click to see them full-size!

Rhetoric - Comic

October 2009 to Present | Personal Work

I've been drawing Rhetoric ('A webcomic about awesomeness and also bookstores') since October 2009. It ran five days a week at first (April 5th, 2010 was the date I posted the first comic) and has since been updated intermittently when I have time between freelance and professional projects. Rhetoric is currently handdrawn and inked, scanned and then cleaned up and colored in Adobe Photoshop. It was originally drawn primarily in vector using Adobe Flash.

Several examples of my best Rhetoric work can be viewed below. To read Rhetoric from the beginning, click here to start with Comic 001!

Rhetoric: The Business Card

January 2012 | Personal Work

I printed a bunch of business cards for Rhetoric to hand out at the 2011 New England Webcomics Weekend and other events. Here's the front and back.

Rhetoric: Interregnum Eve - Comic

January 2011 to March 2011 | Personal Work

During the run of Rhetoric, I came up with an interesting sci-fi story idea that I wanted to do. Rather then take time off Rhetoric, I decided to fold it into the ongoing story, making the idea an idea of my main character. Here's Interregnum Eve.

Fake Book Covers and Posters for Rhetoric

October 2009 to Present | Personal Work

During the course of drawing Rhetoric, I've needed to create several parody book covers and additional artwork for placement in comics. Here are some of my favorites.

Uncertainty Principle - Webcomic

September 2005 to August 2008 | Personal Work

Uncertainty Principle was a webcomic I drew in cooperation with a good friend of mine, Scott McAllister (writer). It was drawn during my college experience at the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and as such, I can point out exactly where I attended and learned from each of my classes. Uncertainty Principle was drawn primarily in vector using Adobe Flash.

Several examples of my best Uncertainty Principle work can be viewed below. To read Uncertainty Principle from the beginning, click here to start with Comic 001!

Common Sense - Webcomic

September 2004 to October 2005 | Personal Work

Common Sense was a webcomic drawn during my senior year at Absegami High School for the school's newspaper, The Gami Gazette. It features myself and my friends and our adventures hanging out in the 'Common' areas of the school. Common Sense was drawn in vector using Adobe Flash at its beginning and handdrawn but colored in Adobe Flash towards the end.

Two of my animation projects created at the Art Institute of Philadelphia adapted comics I created for Common Sense. Common Sense: The Kenny Affair - The Geek Fight adapts an action sequence from The Kenny AffairIn The Principal's Secret Service adapts another comic, shown below.

Here's one single example of my best Common Sense work. A collection of every Common Sense comic, as well as multiple bonus comics and sketches, was self-published in 2006 with Lulu and is available for purchase here. To read Common Sense from the beginning, click here to start with Comic 001!

Lunchtable! - Webcomic

October 2002 to January 2005 | Personal Work

Lunchtable! was a webcomic drawn during my sophomore and junior years at ChARTer~TECH High School. It features myself and my friends and our adventures at our usual lunchtable.Lunchtable! was drawn primarily in pencil on terrible paper and then terribly scanned for internet use, but was eventually rebooted to be drawn 'better' in vector using Adobe Flash.

Here's one single example of my best Lunchtable! work. To read Lunchtable! from the beginning, click here to start with Comic 001 or, to start with the 'better' stuff, click here!
